X posts carry video, GIFs and image sets, and the platform gives you no download button for any of them. On mobile the share sheet offers a link, not a file. On desktop, right-clicking the player gives you a stream URL that often expires within minutes. The reliable route is the same as for every other platform here: copy the post link, parse it, download the media that the post actually contains.
Quick answer
Copy the post URL, paste it into PureSnap and download the video or GIF from the result page. Both x.com and twitter.com links work, including links copied from the app. Protected accounts and posts without media cannot be parsed.
Step by step
- Open the post in the X app.
- Tap the share icon and choose Copy link.
- Paste the link into the parse box on PureSnap.
- Choose the quality tier listed for the video, or save the images one by one.
- The file lands in your downloads folder or, on iPhone, in Files unless you use the Shortcut.
Long-press the link rather than tapping it if it keeps reopening the app.
GIFs are videos
X does not serve animated GIFs as GIF files. Every GIF is transcoded to MP4, which is why a "GIF" you download is a small video file. That is not a conversion done by the parser — it is how the platform stores them. The result page returns the MP4, and most players, editors and chat apps accept it as-is.
Video and image posts
- Videos are returned with the quality tiers the post exposes, without recompression on our side.
- GIFs come back as MP4 files.
- Image posts can be saved at the resolution X serves, one image at a time.
- Posts without media, deleted posts and protected accounts cannot be resolved.
A post can mix media — a video plus images, for example. The result page shows what the post contains rather than forcing it into one shape.
Protected accounts and restricted posts
An account marked protected only serves its posts to approved followers. The parser has no follower session, so those links fail. The same applies to deleted posts, posts from suspended accounts and anything the platform serves only after a login or age check. These are access rules on the platform side, and no downloader can honestly claim to bypass them.
Troubleshooting
- The link opens the app. Long-press the link, choose Copy link, then paste the text.
- The parse fails on a post that is clearly public. Open the post in a private browser window without logging in. If it is not visible there, it is not publicly served. If it is visible there, retry once — endpoints change.
- The result is a very short video. That is the GIF converted to MP4. It is the file the platform serves.
- Only one image is saved from a multi-image post. Save the rest from the result page; each image is a separate file.
- The video has no audio. The audio track is part of the source file. If the post was uploaded muted, the download is muted.
A short note on legality
Downloading a public post does not give you the right to republish it. Your own posts, and content you have permission to use, are the safe cases. Reposting someone else's video without credit, or using it commercially without a licence, can infringe rights even when the file itself is easy to obtain. Check X's terms and the poster's wishes before you reuse anything.
Frequently asked questions
Do links copied from the X app work?
Yes. Post URLs copied from the app and URLs from x.com or twitter.com in the browser are both accepted.
Are X GIFs supported?
Yes. X serves GIFs as MP4, and the parser returns that video file. There is no separate GIF conversion step.
Can I download from a protected account?
No. Protected posts are only visible to approved followers, and the parser does not have that access. Failed tasks are refunded.
Why does a post show no media?
The post may contain only text, the media may have been removed, or the account may have been deleted or suspended. There is nothing to parse in those cases.
Can I download every image in a post?
Yes. Image posts are returned as a set, and each image can be saved at the resolution X serves.
Does PureSnap store the files?
No. The result page points at the media; the download happens in your browser and nothing is kept on our servers.
Those boundaries are the same for every platform: public, media-bearing posts work; everything gated does not.
Paste an X post link into PureSnap to try it, check the X platform page for accepted link formats, or read the other guides for Instagram, TikTok, Douyin and YouTube Shorts.
Only download media you own or have permission to use, and follow the platform’s terms.
